ELECTRONICS RECYCLING--SATURDAY MAY 10th (May 6, 2008)
Call 425-7773 to Pre-Register
You might be surprised to discover that you are not the only person with a television sitting on top of your old console television. It's great that you've found a way to reuse this former treasure, but how about giving it new life and recycling it?
George Carlin dedicates a whole stand up routine (about an hour of dialogue) to the collection of "stuff." I especially like the part where he talks about your accumulations in your first apartment. You have a rowdy party and all of your "stuff" is destroyed and you're out...fifteen bucks.
That's not so true anymore, George. Today's young adults are quick to spend $200 for the latest in cell phone wizardry. Then, there's the video game hardware and extras that have evolved from a playstation to X Box, Game Cube and Wi. Any self respecting youth has managed to acquire all of these gizmos.
Americans are quick to acquire the "latest" gadget that is availabale. That new computer is likely outdated by the time it gets to your desk. Our need to have the next best thing that comes along is fed by newer versions of aleady acceptable software. Does Microsoft Vista ring a bell? Don't you have it, yet? What's keeping you?
Let's take a walk down Memory Lane. Remember walkman's. Did you have a Boom Box? A portable CD player? Electronics evolution has compelled savvy folks into collecting each of these pieces and then setting them aside for the lastest and greatest. What is the "it" item now? I-pods?
Hmmm. What happened to the earlier manifests of the electronics evolution? Where are those old walkmans, CD players, and cellphones? For that matter, where are these electronic dinosaurs: record players, Beta Players, VCR's, console televisions, rotary phones?
In your closet? Attic? Storage Bay?
Well, if you're tired of storing these dinosaurs, mark your calendar for Saturday, May 10th and call ECS&R (814-425-7773) to schedule a time for you to bring your items to the Crawford County Fair Grounds to have them recycled. Only 250 lucky individuals will get the chance to recycle their electronic outcasts for the bargain price of 18 cents a pound.
For more information, contact ECS&R at 814-425-7773.
